🖥️ Understanding VESA for Your TV Mount
VESA stands for the Video Electronics Standards Association.
In the context of TVs and monitors, VESA refers to a universal standard that defines the pattern of the four screw holes on the back of your flat-screen display, which are used to attach it to a wall mount or stand.
This standard is essential because it ensures that most manufacturers of TVs, monitors, and mounting hardware use the same hole pattern specifications, guaranteeing compatibility between your screen and any VESA-compliant mount.
VESA Measurement Format
The VESA size, also called the VESA pattern, is always expressed in millimeters (mm) and follows the format
Horizontal distance X Vertical distance
-
Example: A VESA size of 400x200 means the horizontal distance between the left and right mounting holes is 400 mm, and the vertical distance between the top and bottom mounting holes is 200 mm.
How to Find Your TV's VESA Size
There are three main ways to determine the VESA pattern for your television
1. Check the User Manual or Manufacturer's Website
-
User Manual: The most reliable way is to check the specifications section of the TV's user manual. Look for terms like "VESA Pattern," "VESA Compatibility," or "Mounting Interface".
-
Manufacturer's Website: Go to your TV manufacturer's website, search for your specific TV model number, and look in the technical specifications for the VESA size.
2. Look on the Back of the TV
-
The VESA size is occasionally printed or molded near the mounting holes on the back of the TV.
-
If not, simply locate the four mounting holes where a bracket would attach. They are usually arranged in a square or rectangle.
3. Measure the Holes Yourself
If you can't find the size in the manual or online, you can measure it:
-
Measure Horizontal Distance: Use a ruler or tape measure to find the distance (in millimeters) between the center of the left mounting hole and the center of the right mounting hole. This is your first number (e.g., 400).
-
Measure Vertical Distance: Measure the distance (in millimeters) between the center of the top mounting hole and the center of the bottom mounting hole. This is your second number (e.g., 200).
-
Result: Your VESA size is the horizontal measurement followed by the vertical measurement (e.g., 400x200 mm).
💡 Note: Measurements should be in millimeters (mm), as VESA standards are always listed this way. If you measure in inches, you'll need to convert (1 inch is equal to 25.4 mm).
Once you have your TV's VESA size, you must ensure any mount you purchase supports that exact pattern and can also safely handle your TV's weight.
